Here is a win for you....
Recently I had a customer reach out to me regarding mounting a snowboard via a soft roof rack onto his car. It's actually a really great question because most soft racks are made and designed for surfboards or SUP's. That's not to say you can't use for example the Komunity or Blocksurf soft roof racks. It's just that unless you've done it, how would you know? And would you order it online without trying it 1st, and risk it not working? Not likely, and neither would I. So here is where our good customer Matt comes in...
Matt reached out to me via email ( and yes, as he can attest I/we respond to emails right away ). He wondered if he could mount 2 snowboards onto the Ocean & Earth Double Rap Rax. Or the question could have been any soft roof rack for that matter. Oh, by the way, check out Matt's car. He's got a pretty sweet ride and I can see why he would want the best possible ( and least invasive ) rack for his ride.
So after a couple emails back and forth he grabbed a couple towels to simulate where and how the board should sit on the roof top. As you can see in the picture above. You see, Matt's 2011 Scion tc has a glass roof panel. Have to be kinda careful about how you strap a board rack to the roof. And to boot, it's a 2 door so your mounting straps could be in a slightly precarious position if your doors are not long enough. Glady, his door frame provides ample room as you will see in a minute.
So next, to be SUPER diligent, I dug into my "box 'o' racks" and found a soft rack ( not a double but whatever, I just needed the idea to see if it was going to be feasible ). I have an SUV so that's not going to work. But my wife's Volvo wagon should do the trick ;) So I placed the single soft rack with my snowboard in the straps and voila!! We have a winner...
Side to side and front to back, it works NP.
One last thing to check...is the average car wide enough to hold a double rack? Yup, it is... ( we just placed the single pads side by side to check the spacing )
I sent the pictures to Matt, he looked them over and felt confident that the Ocean & Earth Double Rap Rax would work for him and the rest is history.
Matt was kind enough to take time out of his schedule to snap a couple pics of his new rack mounted on his 2011 Scion tc which we TOTALLY appreciate. And because of his willingness to do that, many of you wondering this same question can now benefit from Matt's kindness. Here are a couple shots of the O&E Double on Matt's 2011 Scion tc; ( and as you can see, the spacing between the pads is right on )
Again, I would like to give a HUGE shout out to Matt! Much appreciated Bro! You've got a wicked rack on a sick car and your now ready to hit it big time.
Reach out to us @RYB if you have questions. We want you to have the best board rack for your needs, and hopefully this little "win" story illustrates that we are here for you :)
